Cyahinda Coffee is a specialty coffee producer in Rwanda, focusing on high-quality Arabica Bourbon coffee cultivated in the mountainous regions of Cyahinda in the south and Karengera Kabuga in the west. Founded by Niyonsaba Betty Scheba, the company aims to empower local farmers, particularly women, by providing fair wages, health insurance, and community resources. Cyahinda Coffee emphasizes sustainable and climate-smart farming practices, such as organic soil management and clean water initiatives.
The Karengera Kabuga Coffee Washing Station, part of Cyahinda Coffee, is located in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke district near Lake Kivu and Nyungwe Forest. This washing station processes high-quality, fully washed Arabica Bourbon coffee, primarily cultivated by smallholder farmers on small plots at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,000 meters above sea level. The region’s volcanic and sandy clay soils, combined with high rainfall and a cool climate, create ideal conditions for growing specialty coffee.
Over 328 farmers contribute to this washing station, including a significant number of women.
